Renovation Update

I'm  Kevin Jones, I am a trustee of the charity - and I will be keeping a diary of the renovation of the centre.  Stay tuned for the latest, and please tell me what you think as we go along.  Its your community centre after all...

The main hall decoration is nearly finished now, as is all of the infrastructure work.  The centres electrical circuits have been completely replaced, the bar has been decorated awaiting refitting by Greene King brewery.  Focus now shifts to the exterior of the building, with work being carried out on the roof, and the gutterings - as well as exterior lighting work.

Once this is done, a big clear up and then we can turn our attention to the flooring in the centre.

As always, here are some latest pictures :

Work is progressing at the centre, much of the infrastructure work is coming to an end now - the electrical work is very nearly completed, with external lighting going in the next week or so, new fire doors and I'm sure you will have noticed the new main entrance doors which has certainly made a difference.  Work has progressed in the toilets and is nearing completion - and as you will see in the newest pictures the ceiling has now been replaced.  Work begins soon on the main hall decoration - and thats going to make the biggest difference.

Here's some pictures of the progress...

An important milestone this week - finally the charity took ownership of the centre.  Thats a couple of years of legal wrangling finally sorted !

The renovations are going very nicely, much progress to date.  I'm hanging on before I post some updated pictures as the wall cladding goes on soon, and that will make the biggest difference to the hall - so its worth the wait !

Time has come now to think about the centre in normal operation, and to that end we can apply for the centres license.  To do that, a very large form has to be filled in which tells the local authority what time each evening the centre will close.  I'm thinking that 10pm Sunday - Wednesday, 11pm Thursday, and midnight Friday and Saturday - what does everyone think?   Also, we need to work out how many people can use the hall at one time, which (assuming I've done the calculations correctly) will be 200 people...

Stay tuned for more pictures of progress to date in the hall...  oh and formally, the Charity takes ownership of the hall on 8th September, all the legal stuff is done and dusted for those of you that have been following our progress...

Well, as you may have noticed passing the centre, the contractors are in - and the progress is rapid to say the least.  The hall looks so different now, and at last there is light at the end of the tunnel.  So, to everyone our thanks for sticking with us, its been 2 years of legal and financial wrangling but we got there in the end.

So, in light of the good news - I recon the centre will be ready sometime in October, but dont hold me to it, you never know what suprises we may descover.

I've taken some photos, as you can see quite a difference !

history...

We were given some pictures showing the social club in full swing as early as 1948 !   Members of the social group, gathered in Hatters Lane School during the war, and then used the "tin hut" church that used to be at the bottom of Totteridge Drive.

I wonder if anyone else has any old pictures,  I am thinking we can make a feature of them in the new centre.

This kind of history easily gets lost, maybe we can save it for a bit longer.

oh, by the way - more people coming to walk round the centre at the weekend to quote for renovations.

its happening - at last !

Monday marked an important day for the future of the new community centre, with contractors coming in to quote for the renovation work.  What was interesting was getting people to go beyond the "oh" factor of the first impression - thinking there's a lot of work here, and as they begin to look round they start to realise that the problems are superficial.  Hopefully that will be reflected in the quotes !
